If you like traffic lights, you've come to the right place!
I have over 35 signals in my personal collection and film all sorts of interesting infrastructure in the wild!
I’m also a traffic signal technician so you’ll get to see lots of behind the scenes work while I’m on the job.

Incandescent Signals in Montreal
Thanks Robert Mont for telling me about this intersection! I'm glad I went out of my way to see it. LPI for the side road and LTI for the main road. This is a 5 way intersection but the phasing is pretty straightforward. Not a great intersection to cross as a pedestrian but the phasing isn't the worst I've seen. Most of the signals are still incandescent, including the pedestrian signals. There are also single section LED peds that look to be quite old and those are rare to find around Quebec.

Conflicting Arrows in Edmundston
Переглядів 3154 години тому
This intersection used to have through and right arrows back in the day so the arrows were displaying direction, rather than a protected movement. Standards have since changed and when the town removed the left turn restrictions here, they left the right arrow hooked up so now it looks like a conflicting movement; both with pedestrians and opposing turning vehicles. Notice a lot of the arrows h...
GE Gentrol's in Moncton

Here is an older Gentrol setup in Moncton. Old steel poles and double mast arm setups. This intersection runs permissive only and looks like it used to have a pole mounted cabinet originally.
Protected Left & Shared Thru Signals
Переглядів 34314 годин тому
Located in Dieppe, NB at Acadie Ave & Champlain St. I filmed this intersection years ago and nothing really has changed since last time. It’s just interesting to see an intersection with this configuration in service, since the standard for protected only lefts in the area is so different. Also, this intersection and another in Edmundston are the only signals with red arrows in New Brunswick.
Mid-Block Signals with Redundant Arrows
Переглядів 48616 годин тому
I thought the arrows would activate during the pedestrian phase like they do in other parts of Moncton/Dieppe. The lane is a shared thru/left so I can see why that was not the case here. This may be getting converted to a full intersection and they got ahead of the curve with the protected permissive lefts, but I’m not entirely sure!
Exclusive Pedestrian Phase in Sackville, NB

I filmed this intersection years ago, but in recent years, it wears changed to have an exclusive pedestrian phase. Either pedestrian button calls up the exclusive pedestrian phase and it always occurs after the side street vehicle phase.
Pedestrian Call Logic at Diamond Interchange
Переглядів 50728 днів тому
Here’s an update at the Lacewood interchange in Halifax. Not much has changed but more protected turn movements have flashing arrows. As well, the pedestrian call logic has been cleaned up and time of day plans have been implemented. I was able to figure out some issues with detection where phases would max out and I was able to set up some pedestrian “forgiveness” at the protected crossing. Th...
Forced Left Turn LPI in Sydney River UPDATE
Переглядів 333Місяць тому
Here’s an update to the forced left turn LPI in Sydney River. The leading pedestrian interval has been increased to 10 seconds from 7, due to the length of the crossing and the turning conflicts. Works the same as before by calling up the left turn signals for the minimum green time, which is also 10 seconds. Phase 2 and 6 have 2 second delayed peds, due to drivers running the yellow arrow. Her...
Adaptive EPP at Micmac & Lakeshore
Переглядів 253Місяць тому
Here’s another adaptive exclusive pedestrian phase in use, this time in Dartmouth. This one works a bit differently than the standard “TIREPP’s” I’ve been rolling out. You’ll get the EPP before the ramp phase because the ramp crossing (ped channel 3) is already fully protected. It’s able to stay in walk for most of the cycle since the only phase it’s not compatible with is phase 4 (ramp). If pe...
Bus Calling a Walk Signal in Lower Sackville
Переглядів 301Місяць тому
Here is another quick video of the Cobequid Rd & Fultz House Ln intersection in Lower Sackville. If there is a bus parked at the bus stop, a logic statement will call WALK2 without the beg button. This assists anyone walking through the area that’s disembarking from the bus. Here is the original video: ua-cam.com/video/sDzGmeleU-4/v-deo.html

This intersection was upgraded recently as part of the Charlotte St streetscaping project with CBRM. Just a standard permissive intersection but with oddly placed poles, some reused signals and incorrect APS sounds. Located at Charlotte & Dorchester in Downtown Sydney.
Lagging Left Turn in Sydney River
Переглядів 264Місяць тому
This particular intersection currently suffers from detection that isn't working properly, so it made more sense to lag the left turn arrow just before the side street phase. This will clear out any turning vehicles but also won't cause any initial delays if no left turning vehicles exist. Located at Keltic Dr and the Wal-Mart Mall entrance.

My Outdoor Traffic Lights During a Snowstorm
You're in Montreal! My town. How long for?
When I saw fibre optics for the first time, I thought they were LEDs but change slower, until when I looked deeper, they're actually incandescent.
I seen that
I don't think this is actually Centreville, Nova Scotia. At least not the one in the Annapolis Valley.
That’s a typo on my part. This is Middleton!
Very cool!
Hey man, I know you mad at me, so I like those beacons but it flashes red like my color and I love them 2 sections but only 1? So I could shows some.
that is very tacky looking
Single section LED peds next to double section incandescent peds, what the hell lol, I love this intersection though!

As so scared

Always amazing to see them still Incandescent
Awesome intersection! I love all the incandescent signals and I think the phasing is pretty cool!
That means it connected each other
Why!?
Again with your face lol?
They pulled a Quebec! Definitely could use a leading thru interval, or just a ball aspect. I find it interesting that they now allow left turns here!
I saw the 5 sections In Carolina and Texas last night
Now the voiceline “walk sign is on for all crossings” is useful
Oh, wow, 😮 that is so rare that that a Cadet of that generation would have the full American-Standard logo on it.
Did you steal all traffic lights?
Yup! I stole every single one 😂
How you do that
@@RubiksStars79327 I didn’t actually steal them. I got them all legitimately through eBay, marketplace or even from the scrap yard or the city.
Why?
Probably hasn’t been cleaned since it was Simpsons and Hudson’s Bay 😂
The no turn on red sign isnt the standard version in Canada
Yeah they messed this one up. Hopefully it will be reverted!
@@TheTrafficTech And Bedford Basin bound J Howe Drive left turn signal and thru signal should also be separated. Since some drivers (including me) may misinterpret the four head traffic lights as a permissive left turn with protective phases.
@@user-rj4xo6vj7x I absolutely agree. I’ve seen setups using the red arrow but we don’t use that in Nova Scotia yet. There’s no reason why this can’t be separated into a dedicated thru and left display.
@@TheTrafficTech Just copy and paste US standards :P
My recommendation would be to replace both shared signal layouts with an Australian 6-section layout, with 3 vertical positions and with the circular and arrows of each color side by side. Red ball and arrow side by side on the top; yellow ball and arrow side by side in the middle; green ball and arrow side by side on the bottom. What they have here right now is so confusing for color-blind drivers, with a red arrow where the green arrow is usually supposed to be. A color-blind driver who honestly can't tell that the arrow is red instead of green could go instead of stopping, resulting in a very serious crash for which the roadway agency would be liable. For this signal layout would never be allowed in the US nor anywhere else that I know of.
have you thought of attaching one of those telephone pick up coils to the speakers on these kinds of buttons to record the sounds in hq? I did that with some in a local area a few years ago and have a small collection of audio samples I was able to trim/ edit and get clearly.
Interesting to see Gentrols outside of Quebec, my favourite signals
New Brunswick, PEI and Nova Scotia all have them. Newfoundland used to but they’re all gone now.
@@TheTrafficTech very interesting
I love this intersection so much! Definitely one of my favourites in Moncton. Those double and triple Gentrol setups are so awesome to see.
Kind of old I think but idk but the tram signals.
These aren’t tram signals.
But- I thought it was an old but the protection arrows what I coded on my tablet last few days.
4:50 I don’t like that the red arrow is below the green/yellow on that inline 5! 😄
Me neither! The problem is that you could have a color-blind driver see an arrow lit on the bottom section, where the green arrow would normally be, and, being unable to tell red from green, they wouldn't know that what they think is a green arrow is actually red--and then they would go when they are actually supposed to stop and wait, and then a very serious accident could result, for which the roadway agency would be liable for the crash for not meeting standards.
I saw one in florida
New urinal 2023 toilet is old 1983
Very cool - like an upside down Regina SK protected left turn signal with red & yellow arrows! I note Moncton has this setup with the vertical signals on one mast arm with Gentrols on the other mast arm, pity this couldn't be Gentrols on both arms as in QC
I like that yellow inline 5 signal. It's interesting how a single signal head can provide indications for thru and left turn movements. Signals here in the US can do the same, but don't include a red indication for the left turn movement.
Stateside, we would say that, with the vertical signal face, the red arrow is in the wrong position because our MUTCD would never allow a red arrow in the bottom vertical position. With the horizontal signal, we would say that the red arrow is in the correct position (far left) but the circular red indications are in the wrong position because our MUTCD requires red indications to be on the left and green indications to be on the right. The concern is that color-blind drivers should be able to discern which indication is which by their position in the signal face, with red indications on the left and green indications on the right.
Awesome! This intersection is crazy and I love it haha. I absolutely love thr Groovebacks here, this is one of the only intersections in the Moncton area to hace vehicle signal Groovebacks. I really wish they had more! If they upgrade this intersection I hope they keep the Groovebacks and Gentrols.
The weird phases for Acadia should probably just be split-phase and then get rid of the goofy signal face order. Or a roundabout like you said.
It's an interesting set up, I haven't personally seen any crosswalks with arrows, so thanks for highlighting this. BC is notable for its numerous signalized crosswalks so are there any with arrows? It'll be cool to see if there are any.
I’ve seen a couple activate in this area! Like I get it but it should be a full intersection if they’re doing that.
Maybe the arrow only activates if a car is waiting to turn? The street doesn't look as busy, the arrow may only be seen at peak times?
I watched it after and it never came up!
There’s a pedestrian-activated signal like this in Colwood. It has an advanced left arrow but it’s not enabled because it would cause a conflict with the unsignalized side-street crossing. I wish they had ped signals for both crossings, so that they could activate the advance arrow!
The Ped Signals are signalizing?
Here's my guess. The arrow was functional when installed, but then was deactivated after complaints. At one point I remember considering trying a similar configuration for full signals at a T intersection with a heavy left turn movement onto the side street (actually the on-ramp at a half diamond). From an analytic perspective I so wanted to do it, the traffic volumes would have suited that treatment perfectly, it would have been so efficient. But I figured it would be too disconcerting to pedestrians in the crosswalk to have a stream of traffic coming in their general direction, even if the movements weren't actually conflicting.
That’s an protected light arrow for this pedestrian signal’s

🚦🚥❤
Interesting! Did they keep the old cabinet? Wonder if they went with the exclusive ped phase to get around not having enough load switches.
Unfortunately this intersection got upgraded, it has no Municipals now :(
Unfortunately this intersection has been upgraded and all of the Gentrols are gone :(
Goofy Ahh Traffic Light Only In Ohio 💀 How can I get this and Bluetooth
Awesome! Love this intersection and the use of separate amber and green arrows. Thank goodness they fixed the conflict issue here from before haha, that was really bad.
I KNOW! I don’t know long they’ve had the exclusive ped for though!
It's definitely an improvement from what they had before hahaa
@@Gentrol honestly!! I would have done permissive ped phasing on the main road but that’s just me!
I think I would have as well, honestly.
Wha!
This intersection ALWAYS appears in my recommended feed and I just realized it's because it's in my watch later playlist 😭
